This is an interesting idea! And one which will seem like a godsend to digital designers. When I was at The Times creating layouts for the iPad and Android, it was such a pain having to create every layout twice, for both portrait and landscape orientations.

A ‘liquid layout’ feature would make life so much easier - things would get done much quicker and you would no longer have to put up with ugly borders around a layout as a result of it not fitting a certain screen size. The perfectionist in me loves this.

During my digital design placement at The Times i got to work on layouts that have appeared on the iPad and Android versions of the newspaper.

Using a plug-in for InDesign, I was able to design layouts which feature interactive hotspots for making images larger and smaller and redirecting. All layouts were created in portrait and landscape.

Vogue UK has a new monthly iPad app! Demonstrating how well a digital version of a magazine can work on it’s own as an exciting new format in it’s own right.
